Multi-sensory teaching engages the student’s ability to see, hear and touch the letters, words and sounds as he/she learns. This method is proven to stimulate the corresponding zones within the brain to improve the processing of sounds and words. Dr. Joe collaborated with reading specialists and medical doctors to develop Red Apple’s programs. He uncovered teaching techniques which are proven to build the reading skills of dyslexics.
At Red Apple, students begin their program by learning each of the forty-four sounds in the English language. Once they have anchored these in their mind, the lessons progress so that they learn sound blends.
Instructors work with students to develop proper pronunciation of each word, a critical step in reducing the effects of dyslexia. This reduces the tendency of the student to reverse sounds and letters. When the student hears and feels the pronunciation of each syllable, solid progress becomes evident.
Next step, children use colored cubes to manipulate and demonstrate sounds within words. Later, by combining all of these skills, reading fluency shoots upwards as the student discovers the joy of reading. |
